The term 'intertexuality' refers to a form of text being used or portrayed in the means of another. When someone uses or alters a previous text that has been created before. A famous example of this is the shower scene which is shown in 'Psycho'. This has been used many other times in various films. 'The Stepfather' (2009), 'What Lies Beneath' (2001) and 'Fatal Attraction' (1987) are all examples of films that have used the shower scene from 'Psycho' and integrated it into their film.
As we were first shown the shower scene in 'Psycho' and it had created suspense for the audience, we now associate the same emotion when we see this scene being portrayed in another film. Even though all these films have a shower scene similar to 'Psycho', they have all modified their scene by changing some factors such as the mise-en-scene, making the scene their own.
